Ginger Coconut Milk

We are all looking for healthy things to add to our diet. And well of course we all want it to taste good too. Ginger coconut milk is a great addition that tastes great and it's so easy.

Here's What You Need

1 cup of coconut milk
1 Tablespoon Tumeric
1 Tablespoon Ginger
2 Tablespoons Honey

Now heat the milk in a pan. Add the other three ingredients and stir until it is at the desired warmth. And then enjoy!

Did you know that turmeric is believed to slow the effects of Alzheimer's? And that ginger can assist with relieving inflammation. And since coconut milk is high in fiber it is great if you are trying to loose weight. And honey is believed to assist with reducing the effects of allergies. So all in all this is one super healthy drink.

Operation Clean Medicine Cabinet

Many of us have started our spring cleaning. And well at my house operation clean medicine cabinet was in need. While I don't take prescription medications, my medicine cabinet was full of expired over the counter medication. I mean really expired by like a couple of years. You know the only time you would take medication that was that expired was if there was a zombie apocalypse.

So I have decided what to keep and what to get rid of. But how do I get rid of this medicine? Just throwing it in the trash didn't seem to be the right thing. So I did a little research, and low and behold I was right.

The FDA recommends that if you have prescription drugs that need to be disposed of that you take them to a community Drug Take Back Program. These are usually held through pharmacies are hospitals. It's important to remember that medication is meant for the individual it was prescribed to. It should not be given to other individuals. So proper disposal is important. These were all good things for me to remember, but I really didn't have prescription drugs to dispose of.

The problem in my medicine cabinet was those expired over the counter drugs. As I read through the instructions for over the counter medications, I was really glad to read that I did not have to save them for a Drug Take Back Program. I could actually dispose of them in the trash as long as I used some sense.

One of the things the FDA suggested was that you dispose of expired over the counter medications in used kitty litter. Finally, changing that litter box has a purpose. Well a purpose other than the obvious. The FDA stated that this would discourage children and animals from eating the unused medication.

I am really glad that I took the few minutes that it took to go through items in my medicine cabinet and just get rid of things that were expired. I didn't realize how much junk I had sitting in there.

So do you need an operation clean medicine cabinet at your house?

Life Lessons From Moone Boy

Well the new season of Moone Boy has started, and the first three episodes have been great. They have provided me with laughs and well some life lessons.

Lesson 1 There Is Something That Motivates Everyone

Martin and Padraic can never be accused of being ambitious. They aren't over achievers, but once they find out that they can get a speed boat for being the top salesmen in their new business venture these two get motivated. And they win the speed boat. Who knew they had it in them?

Lesson 2 Everybody's Family Is Imperfect

So during episode 2 Padraic's parents are arguing constantly. And Debra Moone decides that she should be a marriage counselor. Debra and Liam are feeling mighty smug about how well their marriage is going. It seems as though shoplifting has become Padraic's method of dealing with the issues at home. And of course his faithful friend Martin joins in the spree. Just when it seems as though Liam and Debra are counselors extraordinaire a phone call arrives. Both sets of parents go to find that their children are. Just as Debra is pointing out that Padraic's behavior is due to his parents marital issues the shop owner points out that Martin is the thief. Padraic's parents become the smug ones.

Lesson 3 The Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction

At the end of season 2 Dessie and Fidelma marry and the new baby arrives. The result is the Moone house is just a little crowded. It's time for Fidelma to ask Granddad if she and Dessie can move into his old home. The family decides in order for Granddad to get the point he needs to visit their home. And they need to make it seem much worse than it really it is. Granddad soon recognizes that the surroundings are fake when he visits. And he encourages Fidelma to stay in the house. But when Granddad realizes that a donkey sleeping in a bedroom is the norm, he offers Fidelma and Dessie his home to begin their new life together.

Mission Impossible

Have you ever spent time with someone who is flat out impossible. It doesn't matter what you do you just can't make things work. You feel as though you have been dealt mission impossible.

There is always one person in your life you are going to have difficulty dealing with. There are just times when it might be appropriate to end the relationship with that individual.

Here are three signs that you might want to re-evaluate whether or not to continue a relationship.

Who's Doing All the Giving?

Every relationship has times when one person gives more than the other, but are you the one that is doing all the giving all of the time? If you find that you are doing all the giving it is a sign that the relationship is working right.

Are They Listening?

When you ask for time are they actually listening to you? Do they give you the chance to explain how you feel. Are they empathizing with you or simply just hearing you? Remember listening and hearing are two different things.

Is The Person Capable?

And lastly, is this person capable of doing what you need? If they are and they just aren't willing to do what is needed to make the relationship more workable it's time to run to the nearest exit. And if they aren't capable of giving you what you need is that something you can live with?

Looking at the Sky

I was looking up at the sky the other day. I thought about how as a child I often  laid down on the ground and looked at the sky. In fact my friends and I would often lay on the grass and look at what we would see in the clouds. Everybody has played that game haven't they?

You know the game where you say what the clouds look like. I was always surprised that everyone saw something different. We were all looking at the exact same thing and we all saw different things. As I thought about this the other day I was reminded that we all see things differently. And that there is always more than one way to look at what's going on in life. And that one of the challenges I am facing in life right now is remembering this.

That Special Kind of Luck

This past week I have spent time trying to pin the boss down on when exactly and for sure I would have time off. It has been no easy task she is a very busy woman with a lot of responsibilities. Finally, after many days of asking I get the dates I will be on vacation.

There is much celebrating among my co-workers. One of us finally has some well deserved time off.

Yes, the planning for my time off begins. Plans to travel, and oh so many other things I just can't wait for.

Then I go to the mailbox, and I get a letter similar to this one.

It's right in the middle of my week off. I mean does anyone else have that special kind of luck?

Mango Orange Coconut Water

My faithful followers know that I really like fruit in my coconut water. This time I put together mango orange coconut water. As usual it's super easy, and it's so healthy!

Here's What You Need

1 orange cut into slices
1 mango cut into chunks
coconut water

Here's What You Do

Throw your orange slices and mango chunks into a jar, and then pour the coconut water over it. Put it in the fridge over night. And in the morning you have a fruity drink.

Did you know that coconut water is given to individuals in the tropics who have suffered from dehydration from diarrhea? It's true. For some reason it is a little bit easier to absorb in our bodies system than regular water.

Like mango? then check out this recipe!

If We Met For Coffee

If we met for coffee this week, I would order some tea. I would comment that I don't understand why I always agree to meet for coffee when I don't like coffee. And I always order tea.

If we met for coffee, I would politely ask why is it that people that are charge of anything are such complete morons? We would debate about whether individuals are morons because they want to be in charge of something. Or is it being in charge that turns them into morons? I can never really figure it out which it is, it's like that chicken before the egg question. Is there really an answer to this?

If we met for coffee, I would tell you how great it is that spring is coming. I would tell you how excited I was when I saw that the forecast stated it would be in the 50's this week. I can't wait. I have big plans once again for the yard. The snow just has to get out of my way so I can get started.

I would also tell you how excited I am that I hit the Goodwill on sale day. I was fortunate enough to spend much less than I anticipated and I still got three bags of junk. I finally got some different clothes to wear to work, an I was got some other really cool stuff for photos.

If we met for coffee I would tell you that my most recent video game addiction is that memory game on Swagbucks. I would tell you how this is much better than those facebook games I was playing because I at least get points for playing these games. At least I can exchange the points for gift certificates. So I am getting something out of the games.

I would go on to tell you how I am so glad that there will soon be new episodes of my favorites show Moone Boy. Well at least if you live in Europe that is. When will they be released to the States? It's a mystery.

And lastly, I would ask why does my cat Captain have so many issues? Why isn't he like most cats that simply ignore you? Why does he have to always be next to me?

Why Did You Ask That?

Have you ever been asked a question that you never want to answer? I always think why did you ask that when someone asks me. I always dread the question do you have kids? My answer is always no, I have cats. You see for years, and I do mean years, individuals followed that question with well why don't you have kids? I always thought to myself, nobody would dream of asking someone why they have kids so why are they asking me why I don't.

The truth is I always felt like individuals were judging me for not having children. And it wasn't a positive judgment either.

You see for all of those years, I decided that it would be more responsible for me not to have children for many reasons. One I wasn't married, and well I felt that I needed to be married to have children. Second, I couldn't afford them. I had untold friends that were unable to make it financially because they made some decisions earlier in their life that turned out to be less than positive. Third, I just wasn't very responsible when I was younger. You really do need to be responsible when you are a parent, at least that's my opinion.

One day I was talking with a friend, and I informed her that I try not to tell people how they should handle situations that have arisen with their children because I don't have kids. It seems kind of judgmental to do that. And she pointed out to me that maybe I should be telling them since I made responsible decisions in my life. It was the first time in my life that someone gave me positive feedback for not having children. I was floored.

So as I said earlier when people ask me do you have kids? I now simply respond with no, I have cats because who are you to judge decisions I've made that were responsible decisions for my life?

Turn That Knob

Yes, something happened last week that I have not been able to speak about for a week. It was traumatic. But time has passed and I am now able to speak about it.

You see, I, Captain, am a good pet human owner. I have trained my human well.  I have trained her so that when I give her the look she responds to my command.

So last week my pet human arrived home. I greeted her at the door as a good feline always does. I followed her through the house since it had been several hours since we were together. We went into the bathroom. I always enjoy going into the bathroom with my pet because it is in this room that I am able to use my feline powers to command my pet to turn that knob. Yes, that magical knob in the bathroom. The one where I can get fresh water as it comes from its source. I believe my pet calls it the faucet.

So on this evening I gave her the look. She knows from past training sessions that when I sit in the bathtub and give her the command she is to turn that knob. Upon the first look she ignored me. I was irritated! In order to get my point across I swayed my tail in just the right way so it would knock something off of the side of the bathtub. And I gave her the look again. This time she sighed. You know that sigh that humans give. The one where they are really saying oh, alright if that's what you really want. But after the sigh she reached over and turned that knob.

She turned the knob and nothing happened. Sometimes I wonder about the intelligence level of my pet. How could she screw this simple task up? I mean really. You just turn the knob. So she did it again, still nothing. She said Sorry Captain. That must be why the water department trucks are out in the street. They have turned off everyone's water.

Now, this is one excuse that I've never heard before. But she persisted with this excuse. There would be no fresh cool water from the faucet at this moment. I went about my business and laid down to take a nap in the living room. Then there was a ka-fush gurgle gurgle sound.  I jumped from my lying position to all fours. That sound was horrible. Something was very wrong. But my human seemed happy!

She went into the bathroom. So naturally I followed her. I was excited she turned the knob on the bathtub. So I naturally got over there to get a drink of fresh cool water. But something was once again very wrong. The water was not clear as normal. It was a brownish red. I immediately gave her the now you know I'm not going to put up with that look. I was not going to drink anything like that. It was horrible. The human simply replied to my look with the statement it's going to take a little while for all of that to flush out.

So the trauma is that there was no fresh water coming from the faucet for me that day. In fact it took a couple of days for it to really look and taste normal again.

One thing is certain if I am going to begin demanding that my pet human keep bottled water on hand for me in case those nasty water department trucks return.

Teriyaki Grilled Turkey Sandwich

Once again I searched through the house for something to eat. And this is what I came up with. A teriyaki grilled turkey sandwich. It's easy to make, it's a little sloppy, and of course it tastes great.

Here's What You Need

Bread
Portabello Mushrooms
Butter
Teriyaki Sauce (I used Kikoman's )
Sliced Cheese
Lettuce
Tomato
Sliced Turkey

Here's What You Do

First saute your mushrooms in butter. Then add the teriyaki sauce. Now set that aside. Next butter your bread. Wipe the pan out with a paper towel. Grill the bread in your pan that the mushrooms were in. Next take two slices of turkey and place a slice of cheese on top of it. Then place another two slices of turkey on top of it. Now you're ready to build your sandwich. Place the lettuce and tomato on top of one bread slice next the turkey followed by the mushrooms. And top it with the other slice of bread. Now place the sandwich in a pre-heated oven at 350 for 5 minutes. And the last step put it on a plate and take a bite.

Another Sandwich you might want to try!

Holi Festival of Colors Wish List

Holi Festival of Colors will take place among the Hindu communities this week. And I thought I would put together a shopping list based on the brilliant colors of this festival. It's a festival that starts with bonfires. And the next day individuals throw colored powder and water on each other. It's just a time when everyone gets to go wild.

Novica is currently having a 10% off sale on selected treasures from India. So I'm picking out items from there. Besides Novica does support fair trade and well they also support the local artisans.

Butterflies and Baby's Breath

So a visit to a thrift store can be inspiration for a photo. At least in this case it was. I loved the little wash basin and I thought the baby's breath was a great addition.
