Partial Twist Hairstyle

I'm always looking for easy ways to do my hair. You know something that doesn't take loads of time, but looks great. So the partial twist is often the answer.

'
That's what a partial twist looks like. It looks great doesn't it? Now I know what you're thinking how do I make that happen. First you take as much hair as you want from the temple to the ear. Now hold the hair tight and begin to twist it just like you would twist fabric. Once you have twisted the hair secure it firmly with ribbons, barrettes, pins, or add some bling with some jewels.

Drive in Life Lessons

This weekend was the annual trip to the Van-Del Drive-In Theatre for the Memorial Day weekend Dusk to Dawn. This is something I pretty much look forward to all year. The drive in is just a great environment. You get to spend time outdoors usually in the country. You get to spend time with people you really like. Junk food is permissible. You get to see three movies for less than the cost of going to a movie in the local theatre. But there is one thing that really makes the drive in special; the people that surround you. It’s a mix of families, teenagers, and people who just want to do something different that evening.
Van Del Drive In

So as you can imagine there are a lot of different conversations that you overhear. And here are the two of the best from the evening. And there is a little something that can be learned from each conversation.

The first life lesson came from the father of the little boy in the vehicle next to us. His words of wisdom “Don’t lick the bumper there are bugs on it, and that’s gross.” Lesson learned from this there are always going to be people telling you not to do something you want to. They will always point out the negatives of an idea.

The other life lesson came from a girl as I was walking back from the concession stand. Her words of wisdom; “Glow sticks don’t tickle.” She obviously got hit with a glow stick.  Life lesson learned just because something or someone is pretty it doesn’t mean that they don’t have a little bit of bite at times.

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love to play fetch. If I haven’t I’m letting you know now. Waiting for my pet human to throw one of those colorful pony tail holders is an activity I thoroughly enjoy. When it is time to play fetch I watch the human’s hand closely. I know that the bright colored object will fly through the air soon. And I need to see where it lands so I can run and get it.  When I set it released from the human’s hand I immediately spring into action. And I land on it.  And then I bring it back to my human for her to throw again.  And there are times when I just like to mess with my pet human’s mind. There are those time when I can’t resist dropping the pony tail holder out of her reach. It’s fun to watch her look around for it. Then she asks me where did you put it? And I look at her innocently. And if I really want to play dirty I put it just out of her reach. I grin to myself as I see her look for it. But I have to keep up my innocent appearance or she will tell me I’m being lazy for not bringing it to her. But I’m not lazy I’m just entertaining myself. A girl has to have her fun you know.

Picnic Safety

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. It’s hard to believe, but the kickoff to summer is here. And that means cookouts and picnics. Woohoo! When you’re going to a picnic or having a cookout there are a few things you should remember in order for everyone to remain safe and happy.

Sunburns suck so make sure you have sunscreen available.

Salmonella sucks even more so make sure you cook foods to their proper cooking temperatures.

Bugs and Bees often crash picnics. So remember to keep items covered, and bring bug spray.

Dehydration is dangerous so make sure you have lots of water on hand. And keep in mind water really is the best way to fight dehydration.

Keep these things in mind and you should have a safe picnic.

Mysteries of the Universe

Once again there are a few things I just can’t seem to figure out in life. So here’s my list of recent mysteries.

Why does my retired neighbor believe that 7:00 am is an appropriate time for him to mow his lawn or to use his chainsaw? He has the entire rest of the day to do this?

What is the purpose of roundabouts? Don’t four way stop signs work just as well?

Why do those decorative storage boxes cost so much? They are all made in China out of cardboard. And I know they aren’t paying those people in China that much to make those boxes. Don’t get me wrong I really like those boxes, but really $16.00 for a cardboard box with pretty paper on the outside?

Why does it seem like whenever I try to organize things in my house there is a point when the house looks so much worse?

And finally, why do the beasties always feel a need to go into the bathroom with me? It’s the smallest room in the house, and all three of them feel a need to be in there all at one time. And then they have the nerve to get upset when I accidently step on one of them.

Hiking The Appalachian Trail: What You Really Need to Know by Ramkitten

Hiking the Appalachian Trail has always sounded really cool to me. Ok, the key word is sound in that sentence. I know that while I might think I want to do this I won't. I only like camping one night. Then I'm ready for a hotel. She hiked it, and provides loads of practical advice to anyone who is thinking about making the hike.

Woohoo! I'm A Winner

No, I don't live in Florida. So unfortunately, I am not announcing that I am the powerball winner. So what did I win? I will tell you the story of what I won and how I won it.

One day I visited this blog called Etsy Giveaways. It's a really cool blog where individuals submit giveaways that involve Etsy shops. It includes what you have to do in order to win the giveaway, and it includes the link to the blog that is hosting. So on that I day I visited A Wild Tonic. It's a nice blog where Lauren shares a little bit about her life, and her shop on Etsy. She had a contest. I entered. And this is what I won from Lauren's shop on Etsy.

Isn't that just the coolest? I know that you all want to be winners too. Sadly, you can't win the prize I won, but you can win the Shawn St Peter Photography Giveaway. Click the link and enter and you could be a winner too.

Guest Blogger Captain

I couldn’t resist! It was just dangling there. So I batted it. It moved so I batted it again. In my enthusiasm for batting at that dangling piece of paper I bumped into something. I didn’t mean to. It’s just when your batting at something in the air it’s kind of hard to control your body. And as I am reminded on a regular basis, I am a big boy. And well the stand holding that wonderful piece of green fabric I was batting at kind of kept moving back and forth. Then it moved back and forth more. And then I noticed it was moved towards the floor towards me. Naturally, this frightened me since that stand was a lot bigger than me. So I jumped out of the way. And then there was that noise that followed. I heard my pet human exclaim “What did you do?” All I could do was sit there, and look at her. She actually thought it was my fault. I finally looked away in disgust, because it wasn’t my fault that it fell over, and she had no concern about how much that all frightened me. So my question to my fellow felines is how do I deal with a human who has doesn’t seem to understand my feelings and blames me when something falls over? Please provide me with some advice I need it badly.

Fantastic Things That Have Happened This Week

I walked outside this week and caught the wonderful scent of lilacs. I love how they smell. I always start looking around for the lilac bush as soon as I smell them.

While I was driving down the road there was a beat up old red truck with a parrothead sticker on the back. It was just so fitting. Parrotheads just don’t care about appearances; they care about having a good time.

Seeing the cat wake up and spring into action as soon as he saw a piece of string dragged across the floor. Honestly, he never has that much energy.

Going to an estate sale and finding the cutest little purse in the history of mankind.

Cleaning off a shelf, and finding that Christmas present I bought for a friend. It was perfect timing since I needed to take a get well present to her.

Is That What You Imagined?

I was recently asked how is your life different than you imagined it? Tough question isn’t it? So first I had to think about how I imagined my life. I think there was a time when I had a generic dream. You know the house, family, good job. But then I realized along the way that I’m not really good at co-habitating. I really enjoy my personal time, and if there are other people in the house well you can’t have much personal time. So I have a house that I share with the three beasties. So I attained the first part of the life imagined.

Then there is the second part of how I imagined life. Family:  And family always means a lot of responsibility. I also realized along the way that family is what we make of it. A person may have a large support network that acts in place of a traditional family. None of my parents or siblings live near me. Don’t get me wrong they are supportive of me, and they are great. They just aren’t part of my everyday life. But I’ve been blessed with a large support group who acts as my everyday family. They listen to my problems, laugh at my jokes even if they are kind of silly, and overall make my life richer. So that part of my life is how I imagined it.

Oh yeah, the good job. I think there was a time when I thought a good job was one where you had a lot of responsibility and made a lot of money. I’ve had a couple of jobs with loads of responsibility, and I do well for a while, but then I get tired of all the pressure. So I think I’ve redefined a good job as one where I enjoy working with my co-workers, and where at the end of the day I am able to say to myself I’ve done my best.

So is my life the way I imagined it? Not exactly the way I pictured it, but it’s a version of what I imagined. And it’s really a pretty good life. I have a place to live, people who love me, and a great blog following. I hope everyone else has some version of what they imagined their life to be.

It's Leprechaun Day

I know there are those of you sitting there saying you’re a little bit late Heidi, that was in March, but no you are thinking of St. Patrick’s Day. Today is Leprechaun day! Really it is!

So, I thought I would give you a little leprechaun trivia for you to think about.

A leprechaun does not dress in green as is the common belief. They actually dress in red.

They really aren’t lucky. They are little rascals. If you see one walking down the street it’s best to walk across the street because they will bring mischief into your life.

But if you want to risk letting a lot of mischief into your life keep an eye on the leprechaun. If you catch one and keep an eye on him you can have access to his pot of gold, but if you take your eyes off of him he is free to lie, cheat, and disappear.
The other up side if you run into a leprechaun they are traditionally cobblers so make sure you get a new pair of shoes out of them.
So, I hope everyone has a Happy Leprechaun Day!

This week has been glorious! My pet human and I have plenty of quality time to nap. The human has been home more so we have plenty of time to spend together. And low and behold she has discovered one of the most important things to cats. The nap! I know that she is a kindred spirit because she has taken to napping so well.  Now that I have shared my most recent reason for happiness I am off to take a nap.

Trekkies

It’s funny how we learn things about other people isn’t it? I mean you talk to people on a daily basis about their kids, the weather, and how they want their hair done.  But suddenly a thank you card appears with a dog dressed as Spock, and you find out that someone you never would have dreamed is actually a Trekkie! And you realize that you have something in common with someone you thought you had nothing in common with.

This just made me smile!

And speaking of being a trekkie, this week the new Star Trek movie is released. I can’t wait! It looks like it’s going to be awesome.  And the other big trekkie news have you seen the new Spock audi commercials. If you haven’t check it out. It’s sure to make my fellow geeks laugh.

Basil Chicken

This is so easy to make and it tastes wonderful. And it’s not bad for you. Those three things always make for a perfect meal right? So let’s get started
Healthy Recipes

First boil some water and add the penne. While the penne is cooking cut up like 4 tomatoes. Then tear up a large handful of fresh basil. It’s best to use the fresh, it just tastes better. Then chop up about a ¼ cup of Italian parsley. Then add some mozzarella balls. (Just take a spoon to the block of mozzarella that you have and scoop it out.)

Now your penne should be finished. Drain it, and add the ingredients you’ve prepared. Add some slices of chicken breast. Add some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. And mix it all together in a bowl. And you have a flavorful dish to serve your loved ones.

Now I said it was healthy, and it is. Keep in mind pasta gets a bad rap. It’s full of vitamin a, and folic acid. And vitamin a is great for bones, and your eyes. For all of our friends who are gluten sensitive, get the gluten free type. Pasta is also fat free.

Tomatoes are kind of a super fruit. They help prevent cancer, heart disease, and high cholesterol. That’s a lot of bang for a little fruit.

Basil is full of nutrients which promote anti-inflammatory issues. Hurray!

And parsley is a natural diuretic.

So there’s a little trivia about this wonderful meal.

You Don't Take a Photograph

Ansel Adams said "You don't take a photograph, you make it." The quote really struck me since I'm trying to figure out what exactly makes a photograph good. You know that composition part of photography. I don't think I've figured it out yet, but I came across these photos by Shawn St. Peters. And I think he has a pretty good understanding of how to make a good photograph.

Driftwood DIY's

I don’t know about you guys, but when I own a seaside cottage, (notice I said when) I’m going to decorate it with loads of driftwood items. But until I can get that I have to settle for looking at pictures of driftwood items. And I was really excited when I found this blog that had loads of driftwood items, and it also includes tutorials on how to make some pretty cool driftwood items. It's called DIY Driftwood

I really like the instructions on how to make a hanging planter like this one. It’s so easy to do.

And if you want to conquer something a little more challenging there’s a tutorial for a driftwood lamp, which I think is way cool.

And here are the instructions for my absolute favorite.

Driftwood Candleholder

You will need:

• enough cleaned driftwood pieces to fit around your glass candle container
• multi-purpose epoxy glue

• glass contained candle
• raffia or twine (optional)

Directions:

For this style driftwood candleholder, you will want to have enough clean driftwood pieces to go around your glass container candle – 10-20 pieces to chose from depending on the size of your glass container . It’s best to use 1″ thick linear pieces rather than awkward shaped driftwood pieces.

Determine how tall you want the height to be. Some prefer the height to be just to the top of the glass while I’ve seen others extend it 2-3 inches taller than your glass container. Either way looks great.

Saw off the ends of each piece so they will line up evenly at the bottom around the your glass container while still giving you the height you want.

Now one by one, line up a piece with the bottom of the glass container and begin gluing. Continue until you have completed the circumference.

Wait until the glue dries according to the package before using.

You may wish to dress up your container with raffia or twine.

This past week I have felt a need to shout my feelings out to the entire household. They are not happy about this, but I don’t care. I put up with all of their oddities, and I’ve decided to let the world know what I think about everything. They don’t seem to be listening to what I have to say though. Don’t they know that I am telling them how things should be run around here? And my pet human even told me to be quiet. And I let her know that I did not appreciate being told to be quiet when I have something important to say. So what am I going to do? I’m going to keep telling them how to do things eventually they will have to listen won’t they?

Things That Have Made the Week Grand

Watching a woman come out of a store with two little girls. Both of the girls were carrying balloons, the look of happiness over such a small thing like a balloon was awesome!

All of those people who asked me if I have heard anything yet. Nope, I haven’t, but I sure am glad you’re interested in what’s going on with me. Thanks bunches!

80 degrees I love the warmth! Thank God spring is finally here.

That lady who told me I had a great smile. It’s so nice to get a compliment from a complete stranger sometimes. It brightens the day!

Waking up and hearing the birds singing. They are a much better alarm clock than the one I have plugged in.
